Art Sub Lesson for National Hat Day - January 15
January 15 - National Hat Day
Did you know there is an actual “National Hat Day”? I had no idea! Evidently, it is January 15.There are lots of fun sculpture lesson plans for "Crazy Hat Day". A quick search will give you tons of ideas for a lesson you can teach. However, I wouldn't leave a lesson with cutting and gluing for substitute teachers.
A drawing lesson about funny hats can be an engaging, open ended activity, and kids love those creative sorts of lessons.
"Wacky Hats" is a lesson that I created with a sub in mind, but it can be taught by anyone. It has always been a favorite of my own students over the years.
I included lots of photos of real wacky hats, even some from art history! This lesson is fully scripted with all the directions you need. There are also drawing samples of wacky hats.
It uses the most simple materials: crayons and paper.
So, if you need a sub plan, or want to enjoy teaching this lesson yourself, check it out at my TPT Shop: Art Sub Lessons.

Art Sub Plans - Silly Sundae Preview
Art Sub Lessons "Silly Sundae"
This is a preview of my art sub lesson called "Silly Sundae." I thought you would get more information from a preview of this lesson than just from one or two images. Find this fun elementary lesson at my TpT Shop: Art Sub Lessons.
This lesson is no prep and can be taught by anyone. All someone needs to do is to show each page; read the script, and follow the directions. Subs love my lessons because there is a lot of content and they will keep the students engaged for the entire class period.

Fill This Jar-Art Worksheet Printables
Free Art Worksheet - How Would you Fill This Jar?
Teachers Pay Teachers has been very good to me. I put a lot of work into my shop and it has been a blessing. Now I am helping my daughter open her own shop. I am telling you this because there is a good freebie in there for you right now. At some point, it will become a paid product, so go get it now! It would help her out a lot if you would follow her shop and leave feedback too. You would not believe how valuable that is for a shop owner! Her shop features items to use in learning centers and also products for early finishers. As an art teacher, my contributions will be art-focused, and that's why you arty people might like them.
The item we opened the shop with is an oldy but a goody. You have seen it before, but now you have the visuals to go with it. It can be used as an art center; an early finisher activity; or a quick art lesson.
Whenever she swaps in her next freebie, I will let you know! Find it at Centers and Early Finishers

Art Sub Plan - Imagination Drawing
Art Sub Plan Using Imagination
First published in 1995, Sarah Perry’s delightful picture book of “surreal possibilities” was the Getty’s first children’s title. Twenty-five years later it remains a visual feast that children of all ages enjoy.”
That sounds like a book that would be a good addition to your classroom library in addition to having. Good lead-in for this lesson.

Art Sub Plan - Giant in My House
Imagination Lesson Plan or Art Sub Plan
I created it a few years ago, but since the movie BFG (Big Friendly Giant) comes out this summer, I thought it was time to revamp this lesson. (By the way, if you purchased this lesson previously, you can download this version for free. Yay!)
It was written so that it could be taught by anyone. All the teacher needs to do is to show each slide; read the text, and follow the directions.
22 slides long, the presentation of the lesson is long enough to get the students to engage in the lesson and think creatively before they begin to draw.
The supplies needed are pencil, paper and crayons.
It may be projected as a PowerPoint. It may be printed out and shown as you would show a picture book. It may even be printed out and projected via a document camera.
If you would like to have an accompanying worksheet for early finishers, this could be a perfect one.

Romero Britto Art Sub Lesson
Romero Britto Art Lesson
This lesson is simple but has striking results. The combination of cubism and pop art make appealing inspiration pieces for kids art lessons when combined with vibrant colors and bold pattern. An art sub could be very successful in leading this lesson.
This lesson, featuring the art of Romero Britto, uses simple materials; paper and markers. Markers give the art work that bright color that is a hallmark of Britto’s work. Students create a simple design and add pattern to the shapes. They color it in.
